Is Abraham considered the father of the Islamic faith?

My daughter’s (6th grade) religion quiz had the following fill in the blank question:

Abraham was the father of three faiths:

Muslim
Christianity
Judaism

The underlines represent fill-in the blanks in which she was required to complete. What I’ve presented above are the correct answers and I was a very surprised to see Muslim(ism) as a faith that Abraham fathered. Is this correct? I’m aware that Muslims believe that Abraham was sacrificing Ishmael as opposed to Isaac but does this assumption qualify the above statement that Abraham was the father of Islam?

I have a meeting with her teacher tomorrow and would like to bring this up. Your thoughts/comments are very much appreciated.

The Islamic faith believes that Mohammed was a descendent of Ishmael, who was born from a union between Abraham and the handmaiden Hagar.

Yes Abraham fathered Ishmael which starts the line of Islam. Muslims will tell you that God told Abraham to sacrifice Ishmael instead of Isaac. However this is absolute rubbish and is proven in scriptures over and over again. Muslims will also tell you that the rock that Moses struck is where Mecca is today! Although they like to make a lot of claims, most of it is not true. However, what remains fact is that Abraham is the father of Ishmael and therefore also the father of Islam. The three (and only) monotheistic religions in the world that believe in one God, the same God is Christianity, Judaism and Islam.

Moslems were for a while called Ishmaelites.

However ‘descent from’ biologically is not the same as a descent from, ideologically - hence that between Abraham and Muhammed there’s no prophets coming to the Arabs.

I recently posted this very question on an Islamic forum and was told that this is not true.

Islam teaches that Abraham is the father of all Arabs through Ishmael and that many Arabs are Muslims but that not all Muslims are not Arabs.

It makes sense I guess.

I’m intrigued by this statement…
“The Ishmaelites are sometimes identified with the Arab people, however another branch of Arabs (Qahtan) exists that are not an offspring of Ishmael. Arabs long existed before Ishmael.”
