I know that being drunk is a sin in itself, but is being drunk an excuse for sinning in other ways? From what I understand, the difference between a venial and grave sin can be the state of mind that a person is in (if they are under distress for example). So, if someone is drunk enough, isn’t their state of mind altered and therefore a sin that may otherwise be considered grave, just a venial sin because they don’t necessarily know what they are doing?
