Is all suffering necessary and/or useful?

Hello, and thank you in advance if you answer my question.

I have been suffering in one form or another my entire adult
life, but it has never been for a greater cause and has never
benefited anyone on this Earth. I was taught by my mother as a
faithful Catholic to offer up my suffering for the benefit of the
souls in purgatory, and I have done that every day since I was a
teen insofar as I have been able to, so knowing my suffering has
helped them in some way gives me some comfort. However, I am still
very forlorn because I feel like my suffering will last my entire
life and it is not making me or even allowing me to grow
spiritually, and it is having a very destructive effect on the few
people in this world who care about me.

Recently my mother told me about a book called The Healing of
Families by Fr. Yozefu B. Ssemakula (Fr. Joseph), which espouses
the idea that not all suffering on Earth is good or even necessary,
and that some people’s suffering is a result of the bondages to Satan caused by the
sins of their ancestors and/or their own sins and can be alleviated
(though not necessarily removed completely) by praying a specific
set of prayers for that purpose which are apparently found only in
this book. Is there any Biblical, theological, or canonical basis
for this idea? Must some people suffer most of their lives, even if
prevents them from reaching their full potential and/or fulfilling
their purpose in life? Is all suffering useful or necessary?

Thank you and God Bless you,
Jon
