WHILE God of christianity said to jesus at the time of his baptism " you are my Son " (matthew 3:17), In the koran GOd revealed that He beget no SOn.(surah 19:35). do you think they are thesame God?

God is not liar…how can he say He has a Son in the Gospel and in the koran God denies that he begets no Son…

Any particular reason you’ve started six different threads on the same issue, in less than two days?

If Allah of the Qur’an and Yahweh of the Bible were the same, then their characteristics, as contained in the writings revealed by them, would be the same.

The characteristics of Allah, as revealed in the Qur’an, do not match the characteristics of Yahweh, as revealed in the Bible.

Therefore, they cannot be the same.

Does that mean that there are two competing gods? In a way, yes–Almighty God, the Creator of heaven and earth, and the god (lower-case g) of this world.

And before anyone brings up the fact that Arab Christians use the word “Allah” to refer to God, let me point out that this usage post-dates the rise of Islam and was adopted to go along with the terminology in use by the Muslims.

I’m not sure I accept the first premise. The converse is true, I’m pretty sure: If their characteristics are the same, then Allah and Yahweh are the same God. But I think the same thing can be known under two differing descriptions.

I think your argument would have the same form, but arrive at a false conclusion if you substituted “Christian Trinity” for “Allah” and “New Testament” for “Qur’an”. That makes me think there is something wrong with the form of the argument.

In general, I think you need to relax your standards for meaning and reference. Otherwise, we each have our own, private God(s) and our own private languages.

So you’ve noticed that too…

I thought “flooding” wasn’t allowed

I saw Billy Connolly on stage the other night. He was talking about the Qu’ran having been dictated to Mohammed by the angel Gabriel while he was in the desert having fasted for 40 days and 40 nights. He pointed out that if you went into the desert without food or water for 40 days and 40 nights, you could probably talk to Elvis if you wanted!

😃

Some people have many gods. The gods of money, sex, overindulging in alcohol, etc. But there is only one God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Any other god is false.

Allah has definite characteristics: he is not a father, has no son, is not a triune being but a single (and thus incomplete) entity who destroys rather than saves sinners, has compassion on only the righteous, does not deal in grace but only rewards good deeds, has no way to redeem the lost sinners, etc. Allah is not the God of the Bible. Deu.6:4 O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:

You got it davy39, Amen.

Allah is no more than the english for God, German for Gott, Filipino for Diyos, Spanish for Dios… so allah is not a name unlike Yahweh, it’s what He said to be His name… i cannot see any point that they are the same.

It seems that at least the first three characteristics would have been true (or believed to be true) of the God of the Old Testament (Yahweh/Adonai) before the revelation of Jesus. The identification goes something like this: Jesus says the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and the I AM of Moses is the Triune God (of which he is a person). Mohammed says that Allah is the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Therefore, the Allah is the Triune God, but Mohammed got a lot of his attributes wrong. Muslims, just like Jews (and I’ll even grant Aristotle, Plotinus, and Mormons), don’t realize God is Triune, but they acknowledge the same God. All of these different beliefs attribute somewhat different characteristics to God, but they are refering to the same reality.

So you disagree with the Catechism on this then Berean?
