Hi! Is anyone on here going to be at the March For Life in Washington D.C. January?

I have gone several years in a row and I’m going this year, too.

Do you go by bus? With a group? On your own?

I wish I could go this year, but with being pregnant and working full-time, I just don’t think it’s going to happen.

In the past, I went with my school, Franciscan U, and we rode by bus which was actually quite torturous because we left at midnight-ish and got there at 6 am or so and then left right after the march and got back around midnight again with classes the next day. But of course, it was worth the sacrifice! 😃

No - we will be taking our youth to join hundreds of others at the March For Life in Little Rock!

Don’t I wish! In all 30 years my grandparents lived there I was never visiting during the march. The last one my grandmother attended was in 1993. She became too ill after that. I miss her so much. I almost always make the one here in Boise, and have watched the D.C. one on T.V. Oh wow, to be at something that huge, in support of life. How wonderful it must be!

Bless you in your march. What an honor.

We’ve gone by bus the last few times. It leaves early in the morning and we are on it until early the next morning. Not too bad!

The first time I marched I just died of shock. It was in my earlier teen years when I was simply submerged in very pro-abortion cultures, online and in real life. Everyday was a constant struggle for me. To see thousands of people supporting life was amazing to me.

I will be attending for the first time this year. There will be a group of 94 of us from our diocese in Kansas. 26 hours is how long I’m told it will take us to get there. Any tips on how to sleep comfortably on a bus. 😃

Blessings

If everything works out, I am planning to go. We were gonna get a group together from my parish, but that didn’t work, and we didn’t get the pamphlets for it until like 3 weeks ago. I am gonna call up the Diocese about it and see if there is room.

I have some friends from TNT (Teens in Training) Conference at Benedictine College from the Kansas Diocese that are going… It will be fun… Who needs sleep anyway? When your body gets tired, you will fall asleep, easy as that 👍

Hoping for a great time,
Gabe

I don’t think the words “sleep” “bus” and “comfortable” really go together. I’ve been on so many buses and it’s just not possible. But to help -

-find someone you are comfortable with to sit with - someone you can use their shoulder to put your head on or at least someone you won’t be worrying about touching

-wear COMFORTABLE clothes that layer (that’s also true for the march) so you can layer or delayer depending on the temp of the bus

-bring a pillow if possible.

-bring music or something to read…something that soothes you

-drinking pop helps me b/c I tend to get nauseous on buses, so that helped to constantly have something in my belly too

Hopefully they’ll show movies and such on the buses as well or have story time. Those things also helped me :). Have fun!!! It’s completely worth the trip! 😃

And if you’re tall or big, scramble for two seats or be in agony for the entire ride!

And don’t be like my crazy teen brother who one year decided only to bring his comfy sandals along for the trip.

There we were in D.C. with -15 windchill and almost a foot of snow/ice, trudging along the whole march and he only in little flip flops! We eventually made a two-person chair service to save his feet.

I marched last year and the year before, and I will go again this year. My parish takes a bus down. It’s about 5 hours away or so. We leave very early in the morning and arrive back very late. It’s exhausting, but very satisfying.

It always amazes me to see thousands of people marching solidly shoulder to shoulder… and there’s barely a mention on the news channels.

I decided to bring this thread back up since the march is tomorrow.

I will be going with my archdiocese (Philadelphia). I forgot how many people they said we are sending, at least a couple of thousand I think. We are lucky since we are so close, the bus ride is only going to be a couple of hours.

This will be me and my husband’s first time to go; we are very excited. Sadly, his parents are giving us grief for going, but they give us grief for being Catholic so it was kind of expected.

Anyone else going?

I am in Dc fo rthe weekend and I did go to Fr. Pavone’s mass this morning at St. Peter’s. I am missing the one tonight that is a big deal at the Bascillica due to weather. However I will be going early tomorrow for a 7:30am mass at St. Peter’s and then on to a prayer service before the march. I will let you know all about it when I get home,. It is my first time for the march.

I’m a veteran of longish bus trips from my younger days shudder
  1. If possible bring a good neck pillow (one of those inflatable travel ones is ideal) or roll up a towel and put it behind your neck. And shade your eyes (those oncoming traffic lights can be a real pain) - if necessary just wear your sunglasses, which sounds weird but works fine. Maybe some earplugs as well.
  2. If you have an ipod/discman/walkman then load it up with some good soothing music to play that will lull you to sleep - maybe something classical. Often the dollar stores or supermarkets will sell very inexpensive ‘nature sounds’ (usually mixed with soothing music) CDs and tapes - they’ve never failed me. Even tuning in a radio to static can help, apparently.
  3. If all else fails and you can’t sleep, then use the time you’d normally do so for prayer - the Rosary, Divine Mercy or so on. Better than uselessly tossing and turning.
Good luck to all y’all, as I’ve already said I’m praying hard here for the success of your march. How long until it starts?

Is that where this Mass is that I’m watching on EWTN right now?

I’m going with another 20 students from my university. This is my fourth year going. I’m very excited!

i was supposed to be going but the snow delayed our school’s bus and i couldnt get a ride to school…and I’m sick…I’ll be there in spirit though.

I went…endured a 12-13 hour bus trip, had a blast. There are several other threads about this. I posted pictures on one of them. It was very touching to see how many young people care. I think the thing that really got me was that we had a bunch of boys this year…it is awesome to see men young or otherwise stepping up and not allowing the feminist attitude that it’s all my choice to prevail. Tons of seminarians was refreshing. So were all the religious orders!
