Is anyrhing wrong with asking Mary to bless someone?

No, why would there be?

Of course Mary isn’t God Almighty, so asking Her for anything is asking for Her intercession. Ultimately God is the source of all blessings. As long as you understand that, praying to Mary to bless someone is quite alright – even good.

I am still all over the place with this as a new convert. I just think of it as asking someone to pray for me it’s easier. I still have a lot of baggage about Mary from my Protestant days and probably always will. I don’t have a special devotion to her and struggle with Marian apparitions although I am fascinated by them . One of the visionaries from la salette briefly lived in my hometown. I was always sad that one of the most negative Marian visions happened on my birthday

I felt that way early on in RCIA. Tim Staples’s book Behold Your Mother helped a bit, but it was really persevering in prayer to her that helped the most. Praying the Rosary and seeing results a couple times also really helped. It might have also helped that I was convinced of the Marian dogmas, minus co-redemptrix, prior to deciding to become Catholic.

In general, Mary was probably one of the weirder aspects for me. I didn’t want to become too devoted, due to discomfort from my time as a Protestant and fear it may hurt my witness among Protestants, as they’d see me as just another Mary worshipper. Needless to say, she didn’t let that last through RCIA.

My daily devotion to Mary saved my marriage, saved my faith, crushed my harmful addictions, and saved my chastity.
Of this I will never be convinced otherwise.

You can talk to Mary (or any saint, or your Guardian Angel) more comfortably than you would the closest, most dearest person that you ever knew.

I have to say that I have been helped in very real ways by Our Lady. She is amazing, believe, ask and be grateful for Her help.

This question has been asked online before, and someone cited several statements apparently from Pope John Paul II’s homilies that indicate there is nothing wrong with asking Mary to bless you.

From Pope JPII’s homily of Jan 18, 1995:
May God and the Virgin Mary bless you all.
Be united to Christ in prayer
From Pope JPII homily, Feb 13, 1982
May the Holy Family of Nazareth. Jesus,. Mary and Joseph, bless all Nigerian families.
Children are a blessing and the crown of marriage
From Pope JPII homily, May 8, 1990:
I implore Mary, our Mother of Tepeyac, to accompany and bless you and, through you, all the young people of Mexico.
So there’s nothing wrong with asking Mary to bless someone, if a sainted Pope did so.

However, I personally would be more likely to ask Jesus to bless the person and ask Mary to protect the person under her mantle and to give the person the graces they need, just because those are more traditional requests to make of Mary.

What exactly does it mean to “bless” someone? What is the difference from their state of being in the moment after they are “blessed”?

Asking for a “blessing” is often associated with wanting the blessed person to be protected/ kept safe and/or for the blessed person to receive graces.

For example, those going on a journey would seek a blessing before they left, so that they would be protected and safe when traveling and for the success of their travel objective.

Luke 2
Simeon blessed God and said…v28

and Simeon blessed them [Mary and Joseph] and said… v34.

Peace!!!

I withdrew this because I have often been taught that Simeon was a priest of some sort (hence my post), but re-reading the Scripture it looks more like he is just a “Just and Devout Man”.

Now I’m going to have to do a little more research…
