Is Baptism and Confirmation enough to evangelize the world?

Why are we equipped to bring Christ to the world by virtue of our Baptism and Confirmation? Why do we need Confirmation? Isn’t Baptism enough?

The Church explains it in both the Lumen gentium and the Catechism of the Catholic Church (which quotes Lumen gentium):

The Dogmatic Constitution on the Church states (Lumen gentium):

“By the sacrament of Confirmation, [the baptized] are more perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. Hence they are, as true witnesses of Christ, more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith by word and deed”

CCC 1285

Baptism, the Eucharist, and the sacrament of Confirmation together constitute the “sacraments of Christian initiation,” whose unity must be safeguarded. It must be explained to the faithful that the reception of the sacrament of Confirmation is necessary for the completion of baptismal grace. For “by the sacrament of Confirmation, [the baptized] are more perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. Hence they are, as true witnesses of Christ, more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith by word and deed.”

Hope this helps.

Peace and all good!

As Neofight posted, the Catechism does a great job is articulating the connection between Baptism and Confirmation. I would encourage you to read through both sections: Baptism (CCC 1213-1284) and Confirmation (CCC 1285-1321).

My pithy little over-simplified explanation is that Baptism brings us in while Confirmation sends us out.

In other words, Baptism really brings us into the Church and incorporates us into the Body of Christ and life with the Trinity. Confirmation equips us with the gifts and graces to spread that Trinitarian life to others. But they are both part of our Christian initiation. They are distinct sacraments, but inextricably linked to each other.

it is easy if you understand what is baptism-- and how the holy spirit confirms your calling-- and of course --you functionin the powers and authority of the 9 gifts of the H.S. that saint paul talks about–

As Saint Paul says in Romans ch 8- the Holy Spirit-- bears wittness-- that we are one with Christ–

many people can’t tell if the voice in ther head is their own opinion or the Holy Spirit–

and the 1st level of being baptised in the Holy Spirit is what Saint peter – said in acts
Joel 2:28

"And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all …

… things, I will pour out my Spirit upon all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy. Your old men will dream dreams, and your young men will see visions.

ask your self-- this Question–

do you know many catholics who understand – this simple 1st step of hearing and folowing the leading of the Holy Spirit?

evangelicals have a good way of presenting the Kingdom of God’s power and authority – when people are healed and delivered –

Jesus said his “yoke” was easer than the religious – system that the Pharisees and such presented –

and it is true if you are “down-loaded” with the Holy Spirit

well neither will make you an evangelizer. .Confirmation(Pentecost) was given to the apostles and us to empower and encourage us “you will receive power when the Holy Spirit falls upon you and you shall be my witnesses to the ends of the earth.” Confirmation is like a battery pack but the battery pack won’t work until it is turned on…That comes with an intimate relationship with the Lord…If you do not have the will and if you do not want to be an evangelizer there is no power in heaven or earth that will make you one. You have to act on that which has been given to you.

Oh my…you may want to rethink, “If you do not have the will and if you do not want to be an evangelizer there is no power in heaven or earth that will make you one,”…whether we want to or not, there is a power (God) than can, if it is His will, make us one!

No. God will not force anyone to do anything for him. He will not negate free will. why would he rescind his own gift ? God created us out of love and He in turn wants His creatures to love Him and do His will freely.
When we get the Gifts of the Holy Spirit- it like getting a wrapped present. You can just put it to the side and forget about it or you can unwrap that gift and use it for the purpose it was made for.

God does not say “my will be done” We have to say “thy will be done.” We have to accept God’s will for us-. Mother Mary could have said no but instead she said" I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word."
Free will.

Nothing can make us an evangelizer. As the CCC quotes identify the graces bestowed by Eucharist, Confirmation and Baptism prepare us for evangelization. But who evangelizes?

Is there one of us who is not a sinner? Which one of us is an evangelizer. These are related questions. I have the free will to choose the good or to do harm. Do not the graces of the Sacraments allow me to do either with greater capacity? What do I accomplish if I am to receive the Eucharist while in grave error? Do I do the good by this wrong example?

The Evangelizer is only One! The Holy Spirit that dwells within us. Thank You Lord Jesus for sending down Your Holy Spirit! Praise, Glory and Honor to Jesus Christ, Our Lord!

This is the only one who evangelizes. It is God who evangelizes.and to Him and by His Passion only do we have any part in the Good News. But do we act on His commission?
