Is becoming a cop bad? I’ve read somewhere, and I forget the verse so you all will have to help me with this, somewhere in the Bible it mentions about police/roman soldier/guards being bad. That they weren’t given the right to govern man. Anyone know what I’m talking about? I really don’t think becoming a police officer would be a bad thing in God’s eyes, after all, “Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called sons of God.”

There is nothing wrong with becoming a cop.

There are many things wrong with becoming a BAD cop.

Those who are grounded in faith and integrity are the foundation of our society. We would have nothing but anarchy without trained police officers.

Blessed are the peacemakers is the verse usually atributed to the prayers for police.

I used to be a police officer, and wheras I am happy not to be so anymore, I am happy to have met the people that I did. They represent a cross section of socity…some devout Catholics or Christians of other faiths, others not practicing any religion, but most that I met had an idea of making their towns a better place to live.

On the contrary. Jesus meets and converts various Roman guards and never once does He tell them to quit their jobs.

St. Michael the Archangel is the patron of police officers.

St. Sebastian was a commander in the Roman army.

Romans chapter 13 says that the government has been given the power of the sword.

Consider these words of John the Baptist to soldiers:

Luke 3:14 Soldiers also asked him, “And we, what shall we do?” And he said to them, “Rob no one by violence or by false accusation, and be content with your wages.”

Who would want an entire police force with no Christians in it? If there was ever a place where people of faith are needed, that is it.

Becoming a cop is a good thing. Becoming a soldier is a good thing too. All that matters is that whatever job you do, you do it morally. That means that you don’t break any church moral laws or civil laws. Basically, it means that you always do the right thing. A cop or a soldier puts his or her life on the line for his country and fellow citizens. How much more good can you get?

Yes, be a cop so that you can protect and help others, not so you can abuse the powers you will have.

“To Serve and Protect”…I don’t see anything wrong with that! 🙂
