Spiritual combat can be fought on different levels. All I did was introduce the theological term (imperfection) for what other posters have been expressing from what they know in their heart and personal experience.
The important point: imperfections are not sins.
St. John of the Cross’ Ascent of Mount Carmel is a wonderful work to get a handle on this distinction. It’s all about our battle with imperfection: the attachments, quirks, pecadillios, hard-wired personality traits and ingrained habits that prevent those truly desiring holiness from attaining that which they desire. As he teaches, though, our battle with imperfection doesn’t really begin until our struggle with sin is largely under control.
