By all means confess either way. It’s always better to confess than to not confess. But for me I’m not looking for a friend or for therapy or for it to be easy. I’m not afraid of a priest chastising me harshly and explaining just what the consequences are for continuing living in sin.

I guess it all depends on how you imagine God to be, if He were a person.

Is being gay a sin? And if it is do you need to confess it in confession? If you do how are you suppose to confess it and what do you say?
Deliberately ruminating on sexual thoughts towards another person is a sin. I’m not sure if you really need to specify the exact person or gender you were having sexual thoughts towards. I have confessed homoerotic thoughts before but I think a priest would tell you that you confessing deliberate impure thoughts would be sufficient.

To be fair, I doubt those who do said sin are focusing on their hand.
And to his point, the brain is especially elastic where it concerns sexuality. I am not sure what the extremes of said elasticity would be, but I can imagine a reverse Pavlov Dog’s effect at least a little taking place if one were actively pursuing it. And, the demons, in seeing this perversity, may assist him in his descent to make it all the more easier. Though, one may question if the man was willing to do all this, what his disposition was at the beginning of the thought experiment.

Also, in response to another comment, God is One Being in Three Persons.

Just being a gay is not a sin just as just being a hetrosexual is not a virtue. What you do is important.I have got sexual attraction towards people of my sex rather than of opposite sex; I have got sexual attraction towards opposite sex and not of same sex- No sin in either case as long as you control such feelings which millions of people do.But it is sin if you do gay act or if you do hetrosexual act outside marriage.

To “sin” is to “miss the mark”.
What is this “mark”?

As Catholics, being and doing are defined by “knowing”.

We correctly know what we are when we think it through enough to realize that revelation really is real, and emotional appetites of attraction are not definitions of being; " ‘Let us make man in our own image’… male and female He created them": “male and male” is not “man”, “female and female” is not “man”. Being “human” is about knowing truthfully, and doing based on knowing.

“Missing the mark” is going after satisfaction of attractions and emotions as if being human meant obeying and feeding cravings without question.

As Catholics we are in the world but not of the world, knowing what is revealed, to be a light of what is revealed from Heaven about what is real, what is truth. That is our mark. That is our doing in the world.

I agree, people do not choose to be gay. However how one responds to ‘being gay’ can be a virtue or it can be a great evil.

Don’t worry about it.
Not that big of a deal.
I’m chill, you’re chill, we’re all chill.

From more than one priest:

Be brief
Be bold
Be gone

You will never hear a priest say “I wish people gave more details in confession”
