What does being from Ireland have to do with passing judgement on our fellow human beings?

I enjoy their music.

And I also have a very dear friend (who is an Orthodox priestmonk) from Ireland. 🙂

I have just read this thread and I have to say that I have always loved U2’s music, but that would be for the fact my Daddy decided that their songs would be great lullabys for me as little one. I know that many wonder about Bono and the band’s views on many things, but I can say this I pray that they do see the light.

But I can say that there are many songs that adore that really have a foundation in the Christian faith (Especially from the 80s). There are other songs that are about politics. U2 usually voice their opinions and problems in the world in their songs.

God Bless,
Nikita

I think a lot of the “Dislike” and “Controversy” stems apparently (from what I’ve read and heard on Radio and TV) from Bono and Company deciding to live overseas simply to avoid paying Taxes in Ireland.

I hear and read that over and over again from people who dislike U2—particularly on YouTube.

There folks don’t care about offering their opinions uncensored----and with a lot of “colorful language” included.

No. You said, **“I myself have found him more and more egotistical as I’ve grown older also”. **

Did I say that I was “a big fan”?
No. I enjoy some of their music.

Sometimes the ignore list is useful. That is your prerogative. Your comment regarding Bono was uncharitable. 🤷

I was wondering if my beloved Bono is pro-life or the other “option.” I searched the internet but got no clear answer. I love U2 and I would be so disappointed if he was pro-death. Any U2 fans in the ranks? I’ve been a fan since I was about 12. I’ve been to 2 of the concerts also. The Elevation Tour was the best concert I’ve ever been to in my life.
Hi StatusRose,
First off, my apologies for not reading the entire thread so perhaps my point has been made.
Bono is not pro-life.
All of Bono’s friends are not pro-life.
One of Bono’s closest friends is an “entertainer” called Alan Amsby aka 'Mr Pu**y. He is a drag artist who once included a vile “joke” about rape in his act.
Have nothing to do with Bono. He is a rock singer. All rock singers live in their own ego-tight bubbles.
God Bless,
Colmcille.

Why is it that there are no good moral romantics who artfully sing about true love??? Where have they all gone? Is it a conspiracy? WHy are the regressives (progressives) too afraid to spread too much true love???

Watch Bono’s interview at this link and you can figure out the answer to whether Bono is pro-life or pro-choice rather quickly youtube.com/watch?v=vEDcCuQcXX0&feature=related. He states in this interview how much he likes Obama and how close they are. He goes on to say that Obama will be very good for the world.

That would not be a problem for me except that Obama…having been in office for such a short time…is working feverishly to lift restrictions on abortion and embryonic stem cell research (check out www.citizenlink.org and search Obama…it’s all there). Embryonic stem cell research commonly utilizes the horrendous act of partial birth abortion to harvest stem cells from the organs of viable babies…babies who are gestationally old enough to be born and live outside of the womb. For anyone that isn’t familiar with what partial birth abortion entails, click here citizenlink.org/FOSI/bioethics/abortion/A000001313.cfm.

My point is this: I think it’s great that Bono wants to help Africa, but how can he give the impression that he loves “life” (the lives of millions of Africans who are dying of AIDS and poverty)…yet highly favor and support a man who will allow millions of fetal human babies to be killed every year? The two don’t add up for me. He is also states in this interview that he is very against guns and America having a military prescence in the world. Obviously he is, and has always been, against war and violence–which is a great thing! But if he is so against those things, why on earth would he say that Obama, a man who is pushing to lift all restrictions on abortion and embryonic stem cell research, is good for the world? More children die from abortion every year than all the gun shootings, wars and African deaths combined! It has been dubbed “The Silent Holocaust”. Why is he embracing and promoting a man who is contributing to the deaths of millions of children?

Obama is overwhelmingly pro-choice, and Bono is very pro Obama…so the answer is clear to me. Though I have loved U2 for most of my life, I’ve lost respect for Bono. I’ve hoped for years that he would be a bold witness for Christ. At times he seems to have been…but you can’t be a bold witness for Christ and support pro-abortionist leaders at the same time…the two don’t go together. If Bono wants to act that way, that’s fine…but I wish he would stop doing it in the “name of love” and claiming Christ is behind it all. You can’t love the lives of African people, yet overlook the lives of millions of aborted babies worldwide…and say that you love life and want peace. The two don’t add up. In the words of Mother Teresa “The greatest destroyer of peace today is abortion. Any country that accepts abortion is not teaching the people to love but to use any violence to get what they want”.
I agree with you 100%

As others have posted, Bono has often affirmed that he is a Christian and believes in Christ, and that his dad was Catholic and his mother was Protestant. Also, neighbors were Pentecostal, and the fellowship U2 was part of in the early 80’s, Shalom, was Charismatic.

But is U2 pro-life? Not even close.

Bono has somehow evaded the issue, other than an infamous response in 1989 during an interview with Mother Jones:

MJ “How do you feel, for instance, about abortion?”

B: “I just have my own ideas. I believe that it’s a woman’s right to choose. Absolutely.”

That was 25 years ago, and U2s more recent albums have returned to more Biblically themed songs like their first few albums, and Bono has been more open and bold about his faith. Could he or they have had a change of heart?

A few years back, when the ONE Campaign was inaugurated, I was optimistic because it involved Christian leaders and appeared to be a faith-based initiative. Unlike previous public efforts that worked through radical leftist organizations like Greenpeace and Amnesty International, ONE appeared to finally connect work for social justice with a Biblical Worldview.

I had not paid much attention to ONE for some time until Bono proclaimed that poverty would be ended by 2030. Wow, that’s ambitious. How will that work, in a sinful fallen world, where governments keep their people in poverty, and some people simply will not or cannot work and churches are strained to help them? Perhaps when Jesus said we will always have the poor he actually meant, “You will always have the poor until my favorite son, Bono, comes along and saves the world from poverty.”

So I looked again at the ONE campaign… Absent are Christian leaders who were connected with the advocacy group in the beginning, and in it’s place the organization is run by pro-abortion organizations like the Gates Foundation, United Nations Population Fund, CARE USA and the Buffet family. Bono’s other campaign, (RED), which funds The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, an organization that inexplicably insists that comprehensive reproductive health services (aka abortion and sterilization) are necessary in it’s effort, following the philosophy of the World Health Organization, which promotes the belief that access to abortion is a fundamental human right, and for "equality for “sex workers” and homosexuals.

So, not only is Bono NOT pro-life, he is actively working to promote the abortion industry as a means to fight AIDS and poverty. That’s really messed up.
