Is breaking your baptismal vows mortal sin?

Would it be considered the mortal sin of breaking vows if you in some way broke your baptismal vows? I can see how such vows as “do you reject Satan and all his pomps?” covers venial sin, but would it be mortal by breaking the vow? Or are baptismal vows less than a vow that you are bound by mortal sin by?

Regarding ones baptismal promises…which are profound in depth…make sure you read the post I have here on the forum now…the “Yes” one.

But to answer:

To commit a mortal sin…is a mortal sin.

To commit a venial sin …is a venial sin.

My answer is the same.

If one commits a mortal sin …it is mortal.

If it is venial …it is venial.

One is bound “gravely” by grave things…like “do not murder” …

or venially in venial things (or when grave without fk or fc) …so if one tells a venially sinful lie…it is venial sin.

The responses we make at our baptism are promises, not vows.

What is it you think you promised in baptism that you are now “breaking?”

No.

Such is not a “vow” in the sense of a canonical vow …

This is why the Church uses often the language “Baptismal Promises” these days…

Could someone makes their baptismal promises with the intention of them being a canonical vow, without knowing that this was not what they were meant to be?

One has to intend a vow…knowing what they are doing…intend to bind oneself…

It must be deliberate.

…one should not scruple over these things either.

Even with a canonical vow…one need not “bind oneself” mortally as you suggest here.

One can bind oneself “venially” in such matters.

As I said in one of your other threads please see a priest about your scrupulosity otherwise you will have a miserable time if you let it dominate you.

What are you planning? Is there a portion of your baptismal [vows, promises, contract, committment etc.] that you are planning to suspend or retract or apostatise from?

Is there someone you know that has a plan or has carried out a portion of this?

Why would anyone in their Catholic, Christian and right mind break or reject any part of their baptismal anything?!
