Is "Centering Prayer" accepted by the Catholic Religion?

Is centering prayer accepted and/or approved by the Catholic Church? My church seems to support it, but I’ve started googling the subject and there are certain Catholics, even priests, denouncing the practice. They’re saying one is looking into oneself and not really seeking God, much less praying to God, and they’re saying it’s like Transcendental Meditation. What does the Catholic Church say about it?
