Hello. I was wondering, is cheating on a test sinful? I have a test in math class that I need to make up and I was going to do it at home instead of at school (I have a copy of it) and turn in the copy I did at home. The reason I am considering doing this is because my teacher will call me in afterschool to take it, and I was going to go to adoration then. I practically never go to Mass, nor Adoration, (parents) so I am wanting to do everything in my power to make it. Plus I told the priest I would be going, so he might be surprised when I do not show up.

Yes, not to mention it’s associated with I imagine rather harsh consequences in practically every school system. There’s also an issue, surely, with obtaining a copy in the first place, especially from another student as it is promoting the behaviour, exerting an influence on them to sin.

It’s nice to go to adoration, but don’t commit a sin to do it. That’s not what the Lord wants.

Yeah. So sorry to hear about your case, I can imagine how much you want to go to Adoration but trust that the Lord will provide a time and place (praying for you). Imagine being before the Lord and having lied to get there… I did that (for a confession) and it is a bit odd. Also; the priest won’t care.

If you do it at home without copying and under exam conditions and tell the teacher you really want to do so because for a private reason you’d really prefer being somewhere after school but will record yourself taking the test or something (aka promise promise not to cheat) if you ask really nicely she might let you. You don’t have to try if you don’t feel comfortable but you could.

Good luck in life. I might need a good hour in Adoration to chill down a bit too. We all kinda do and since it is your first (I assume) you’re super excited about going but don’t sin to do it.

I wonder if your teacher would allow you to take the test during a break, or before school, or some other time? Not sure what your or your teacher’s schedules are like of course but it would be my inclination to ask.

Might be something you’ve already considered, but just a thought.

Yes, cheating is sinful even if you do it for the Lord. Tell the teacher you have an appointment that you absolutely can’t miss and he will likely arrange another time for you to take the test.

Well, a friend of mine, who was in grad school, got caught cheating on a take home test - and after tens of thousands of dollars and years of effort, he got expelled with just a few months to go. So now he’s in debt, and it will likely be very hard for him to transfer into another such program.

That’s not a Theological argument, I know, but it’s still the truth of what can happen.

I’m almost certain that mathematics is the one area of study where cheating is not considered sinful. Have you seen calculus? It’s clearly devised by the Devil and meant to cause us much suffering. Defeat Satan and his cult of math-minded minions. Use the answers. 😜
