Is civil annulment the same as a Church annulment?

I was married briefly and the marriage was annulled by the state of New York. I am not divorced. Do I still need to obtain an annulment from the Church? Is the process exactly the same?

Civil and ecclesial annulments are different processes legislated by different authorities (i.e., the state and the Church). Your marriage would need to be placed before a diocesan marriage tribunal and an annulment granted by the Church before you would be free to marry in the Church.
