I am writing because I am in a unique situation with cohabitation. My girlfriend and I have been dating for over 4 years and are not ready for marriage yet. We have not begun to live with eachother yet, and have been living in different states for the past year.
She has recently found a job in the state that I currently live in (and has had difficulties finding one in the state she lives in). We have decided to cohabitate because of the circumstances and to save money.
We are both practicing Catholics, and are celibate. We recently decided to rent a two bedroom, two bathroom apartment.
My question is: is this a sin? We will cohabitate, but NOT be sexually active, we will sleep in separate bedrooms, and have separate bathrooms. We did not want to do this but with the economy the way it is, this may be my girlfriends only job offer this year. My girlfriends father is making this seem like a mortal sin against God and our Catholic faith. Please help me.
