My boyfriend’s father is a faithful Catholic, however, he was divorced about 30 years ago. He believes that if he is divorced, he cannot receive communion. He goes to church every Sunday but does not go up to receive. Is this correct?

Hi,

If he is living as a celibate, he may receive Holy Communion. The Church allows divorce for the equitable division of goods. Divorce does not dissolve the marriage bond. The Church does not allow re-marriage unless the person is able to have the marriage annulled.
