What is Concupiscence? The first time I heard of it, it sounded like the sinful nature and origin sin, but when I looked it up it sounded like it was merely an aspect of humanity’s fallen nature. What is it and how does it relate to humanity’s fallen nature?

Concupiscence* resulted* from the first sin.

Fr. Hardon wrote about one of the three preternatural gifts that Adam and Eve had, that were lost, particularly the gift of integrity:The gift of *integrity *is equivalent to exemption from concupiscence. It is called “integrity” because it effected a harmonious relation between flesh and spirit by completely subordinating man’s lower passions to his reason.

Stated positively, integrity consisted in the perfect subjection of the concupiscible and irascible appetitive powers to the dictates of reason and free will. As a consequence the will had not only indirect (diplomatic) but also direct (despotic) dominion over the appetite.

Yes, to the extent that man is in communion with and subjugated to God, his moral integrity is greater. There is no such thing as a “sinful nature”; there’s only man with God, and man without God. “Apart from Me you can do nothing”, Jesus tells us in John 15:5.

When Adam separated himself from God by his act of disobedience, he removed himself from God’s authority, and therefore God’s control. By attempting to gain even more control over himself, Adam actually forfeited it, and the flesh began to war against the spirit; internal division and disharmony would reign. Only in partnership with God does man attain his full perfection.

Concupiscence is the reason Adam and Eve covered their nakedness.

In other words when we see something or someone and we allow our primeval instincts to take over winning over our intellect. And further we indulge our intellect in thoughts that are devoid of charity.

In other words you are saying that everyone should be walking around nude right now? 😃
