Is doing the devil horns sign a sin/wrong according to the Church?

I doubt it. I’m a metal fan as well. It was originally a symbol to ward off bad luck. Ronnie James Dio started doing it. Nowadays all it means is rock on or awesome.

Yeah, it never had anything to do with the devil. It’s fine.

No, it’s not a sin.
Dio’s grandma who originated the “horns” being used in metal was Catholic.
It’s common among old Italian Catholics. It’s actually a sign they use to ward OFF the devil.
Don’t worry about it.

I still find myself doing this subconsciously, like when an ambulance or fire truck goes screaming by. I prefer to make the sign of the cross, now, if remember and don’t automatically make the horns. Old habits die hard.

Well actually the normal crossed finger sign, as we do in metal, is a curse in Italy. The protective sign is the reverse palm, fingers still pointing the horns, but the palm is reversed.

Palm facing the viewer is curse. Back of palm facing the viewer is protection.

Nobody I know does a “crossed finger sign” for metal or anywhere else in rock. The horns people throw look like the picture you posted.

The direction of the palm is usually just dependent on how somebody is standing or how much beer they had 🙂 nobody in a pit is paying that much attention so they probably equally curse and protect by the end of the night.
