Is eating meat on Friday still a sin???

I received literature in the mail indicating that it is still a sin to eat meat on Friday, and that US Catholics have been deceived into believing that it is okay. I have been eating meat on Fridays. Is this a mortal sin? I did confess this and my confessor told me to throw that kind of literature away, however, I have some very strong Catholic friends who also say it is still a sin. What is the real answer “according to Catholic Church teaching on this”?
