Is Facebook Stalking a Sin?

It just seems an odd use of the term. I figure that first, they wouldn’t add me as a friend if they didn’t want me viewing their page, and second, the whole point of Facebook seems to be to put your daily actions and thoughts in front of everybody. That’s not always a good idea.

I don’t think it’s meant in a negative way - it’s just a shorter way of speaking than saying “Oh, were you viewing my page without making comments or leaving any “likes” on it?”

  • to proceed or spread through in a steady or sinister manner.
How do you stalk someone for moral purposes?

Depending on a person’s privacy settings, one may be able to view another’s page without being a “friend”. I have viewed pages through my sons’ pages of people who are not “friends” of my sons.
 
Well, there is a priest of the diocese who routinely posts religious links and other items of interest. He has a lot of facebook friends including me. I always view his posts, and they are always interesting. I never have anything to post in reply, but his posts are a lot more interesting than those which consist mainly of cryptic shorthand undecipherable language. Hope I’m not accused of stalking him. If so, I don’t think he has any objections.

Edit: PS–In the early days I tried to post more on FB, but it turned out to be too problematic. First, I don’t really speak the language. Second, my thoughts often ended up taking more space than Facebook was willing to give me without being cut off. Easier to just observe.
