Is file sharing a sin?

I think with movies, you’re allowed to watch them at home but what’s not permitted is public distribution. That’s why it’s okay to watch a movie at a friend’s house, but not to download it online. As for getting a copy from a friend… I would also not advise this, I tend to think it’s wrong because a new copy is made… but for free.

It’s best to just be safe, - then steal and break a Commandment.

God bless

I suppose we should specify that file sharing of COPYRIGHTED material is illegal. File sharing NON-COPYRIGHTED material is A-OK… but how many people are file sharing non-copyrighted material? UM. NONE.
You are the one who needs to be specific and consistent with the terms you use. Simply using the terms “file share / file sharing” and adding illegal to it is a very inaccurate statement.

A lot of people don’t know what file sharing is and what it constitutes. However, I can understand because it’s actually something technical.

You have made another false assertion and I will attribute it to your lack of understanding of the concept of file sharing in general. I will give you a homework. Do some research and try to answer the question you posed again.

What about out of print books, movies, discontinued games etc…

Something that I would like to buy but is not currently and there is no indication it will be for sale anytime soon. In that case would it be permissible to download such a file?
