Is getting the leep done on your cervix a sin

So I have been told by several doctors recently that I need to have the leep procedure(they use a tool to cut off a piece of my cervix) done on my cervix. Reason being is that I have mild to severe dysplasia (bad cells that could be cancerous) . So my husband and I did some research and found out that it can cause miscarriage s in future pregnancies. But the docs insist on me getting in done for my health because if I let it go it could be deadly…
So my question is …would it be a sin to follow through with it?
 
Removing cancerous or pre-cancerous cells is never a sin, no matter which organ is affected.
 
It is not sinful. I pray that you have a safe procedure and full recovery.
 
While a LEEP is certainly a risk factor for cervical insufficiency, the vast majority of women who have a LEEP do not have cervical insufficiency.
 
I had one, but am past pregnancy age. If you do have cervical insuffiency, there are things that can be done, such as cerclage. I will also keep you in my prayers.

Hi. I had that procedure done in my 20s and I’ve had 3 children afterwards. Don’t worry.

The Church allows for medical procedures to cure disease. From Humanae Vitae (1968):

"Lawful Therapeutic Means

“15. On the other hand, the Church does not consider at all illicit the use of those therapeutic means necessary to cure bodily diseases, even if a foreseeable impediment to procreation should result there from—provided such impediment is not directly intended for any motive whatsoever. (19)”

Your intention is based on your doctor’s diagnosis.

It’s a procedure to handle a valid medical problem. One could argue that your reproductive chances could possibly be more greatly harmed if you do not use it to catch a medical problem early and have it taken care of. (Hopefully there is no actual cancer, but if there was and you did not handle it as soon as possible cancer could very well cause sterility or death).

I hope everything goes well and there is nothing actually wrong and it all just ends up being a false alarm. You are in my prayers.
 
Having had dysplasia of the cervix (I’m a DES daughter), I would recommend following the doctor’s advice, especially if you’ve had a second opinion and they recommended the same thing.

I was never offered that option (don’t know if it was available 40 years ago). Maybe my dysplasia was too minor for them to offer it if they had it. I would have taken it. I was lucky in that I never developed cancer. The fear I lived with , the uncertainty of what would happen when I was pregnant (I had one miscarriage, two live births) was awful.

Plus they may be able to do reconstructive surgery on the cervix so there won’t be a future problem.
