I am the 3rd born child of my family who was baptized Catholic as an infant and then taken to church on Sundays and special events. I was not raised and confirmed into our church, but I have always had a strong conviction in the existence of our Lord and the afterlife, since the day Jesus Christ had shown himself to me in the night sky when I was a child. I have also been in a state of searching a few years back that had gotten me to think about converting to Catholicism when I was in my early to mid 20’s.

My dad was born with a heart defect and was not expected to live. His parents, 2 devout Catholics, have prayed to God to let my dad live and was since destined for Priesthood. My dad ignored that call and instead married my mum. My dad’s 1st born child was born with the same heart defect and died, almost as if God was sending a message to my dad he was destined for priesthood;.

I don’t know if me having a strong conviction in the existence of our lord despite not being raised Catholic apart from infant baptism and taken to church, me being put into a state of searching, hasd anything to do with God calling me to Priesthood.

Reccieve the sacraments as soon as often as possible. Place yourself in prayer- Scripture, the Rosary, Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament…

True discernment comes through prayer.

If you were baptized Catholic then you are Catholic. You don’t need to “convert”, but you do need to be formed in your faith. You would probably benefit from participating in RCIA and completing the sacraments of initiation.

It is good you are considering the call to priestly vocation. Most diocese have a vocation director with whom you can explore your question. Talk to your local parish priest about your thoughts.

I recommend learning to pray the Liturgy of the Hours, and attend daily Mass if you are able to do so. All of these practices, including those listed by @Maximilian75 above will help you to discern your call.

No one needs to find the answer to this question alone. The Church is eager to help you discern your vocation, so just keep following the call of God and it will all become clear to you as you progress in your spiritual life.

Your dads vocation was marriage. I’m pretty sure there’s no such thing as choosing the wrong vocation

You sure you’re not just thinking that because your parent and sibling had such heart defects?

If you think you should be a priest, first thing first is to become a faithful catholic and see what happens from there.

Discernment comes through prayer.
This ^^

I would also suggest talking to a priest about all this.

All are called to Christ’s Church. You don’t mention whether you are an active Catholic now, but you should be.

Are you called to the priesthood? That is a matter for prayerful discernment. The Church certainly needs priests. Speak to your pastor about this.

I would not suspect that your Dad’s heart problems were because he chose marriage over the priesthood.
