Is God present in hell?

I don’t understand how hell can be eternal? What if someone who went to hell repents and wants to become a better person don’t you think that the Lord would forgive him and get him out of hell?
After we die, the decisions we made while alive are caught, frozen, and become unchangeable. Just as those in Heaven can never choose to sin, those in Hell can never choose to repent of their sins. The choice was made - one way or the other - while the person was alive.

Or not?

what does the Church teach on this?

thank you 🙂

(if He is present there, then of course the souls there experience His presence as pain, and He is not united with them and not in their hearts)
Certainly not. Hell is basically what every sinner asks for. When a Mortal Sin occurs, this sends God the message “I don’t want you” and so he replies “Gotcha. I’ll send you to a place that is complete separation from me.” Hell is essentially what life would be without God. Pray to God and thank him every day that you have him with you at all times.

I hope God is not what you describe…for all of our sakes.

God is love. He created us for heaven and is not looking for a “gotcha” to trip us up and send us to hell. Rather, we condemn ourselves to hell because we cannot bear to be in God’s presence when he reveals our sinfulness to us.

If we love God and trust in His divine mercy, I have no doubt that “Ear has not heard and eye has not seen what God has for those who love Him.”

I don’t think you can repent in Hell. Besides, in Hell you probably don’t feel sorry for what you’ve done because it’s an eternal feeling of anger, jealousy, and all other Hellish feelings.

thanks a lot for your replies 🙂
When I was at confession on Saturday I asked the Priest (I don’t have noone at home I could ask) about heaven and hell, and the Priest said that there was free will in heaven and that that was where fallen angels came from?
