Hi there,

I was speaking with a friend the other day about something. She told me that whenever we sin, God’s heart is pierced…and it leaves a scar. I told her that there is no pain in heaven, and Jesus suffered for our sins here on Earth when He died on the cross.

Did I answer her correctly?

I will speak as an earthly parent and not a heavenly one when my children sin it does hurt my heart, but because of my love for them I can not say it leave a scar because when they ask forgiveness the heart that was pierced has no scar but LOVE (still) it never left but How can I ever say it did not give him pain (my human side say of course he feel the pain of hurt when his children fall away everytime we sin) but God is the only one that can control what happens in Heaven… no other being created by him has that authority of all things so, Jesus is give us an choice to follow him and carry our own cross by dying for us but We are talking of somethings as Fr. Corapi always says:

Gods ways/thoughts are so far above our ways/thoughts as the heavens are above the earth how could we compare our simple thoughts or understanding to God our Father…

Your heart is as mine is trying to grasp the love, thinking, understanding or Our Most Holy One…

Speaking in a literal sense, yes you did answer correctly.

However I believe your friend was speaking symbolically. Here’s the Golden Arrow prayer; it seems to relate to what your friend said:
The Golden Arrow Prayer
(Prayer revealed by Our Lord to Sister Marie of St. Peter in 1843)

May the most holy, most sacred, most adorable, most incomprehensible and ineffable Name of God be forever praised, blessed, loved, adored and glorified in Heaven, on Earth, and under the Earth by all the creatures of God and by the Sacred Heart of Our Lord Jesus Christ in the Most Holy Sacrament of the Altar. Amen.

Jesus said “This Golden Arrow will wound My Heart delightfully,
and heal the wounds inflicted by blasphemy.”

As you can see, I think your friend was speaking in symbols.

Your friend was incorrect theologically, however. Even if our sins did pierce the Heart of God, they would certainly not leave a scar (so long as we go to Confession and seek true forgiveness). I just don’t see how it could be scarred if God truly forgives us

This does remind me of something I heard a long time ago. I heard that saying “Alleluia” during Lent adds nails to Jesus’ Cross and makes His sufferings worse. Now that can’t be right, but it can sure be useful to make little ones stop saying it during Lent 😛 :o

We can do no harm to God qua God. However, we must remember that Jesus Christ was crucified for our sins. So when we sin, it is us taking a part in Christ’s crucifixion. When we sin, we are the reason that he suffers.
