Is God's mercy towards the just affected by his continual anger with the wicked?

Quite a complex question, I’ll try to present it in a simple way. Here goes: We know that there are a lot more wicked than just people in the world, and that “God is angry with the wicked everyday.” (the Bible, can’t remember which specific book though). My question is, if someone who is just happens to commit a major sin, is God angrier than he would usually be if it so happens that on that day a large number of wicked have drawn his anger? We as humans treat even our loved ones more harshly on days when we happen to be angry or stressed out. Is God like this too? What are your thoughts?

My enemy has born false witness. Vile this terrible sin. Caught in a lie even the judge calls vile. All say vile, save God. Our Father say’s “My child is dying”. Day and night at the bedside of a dying child so is Our Father with the wicked. He does not wish that any should perish.

I’m sure the more learned can answer better, but my understanding is that although God doesn’t have emotions the way we do (passions, fits, unwilled feelings) it’s clear from scripture and history that sometimes God withhold’s His protection and graces when His people are rejecting Him, and at other times He intervenes to save them. At Mass I try to always pray that the Holy Sacrifice of Our Lord will appease His anger with our increasingly sinful world and my country in particular.

Actually, I think it’s completely opposite. God’s anger towards the wicked is turned away by the righteous, and more specifically, by the Sacrifice of Jesus Christ. That is what the Mass is all about. We are re-presenting the Sacrifice of Jesus Christ to the Father in reparation and atonement for our sins and wickedness. It is seen more clearly in the EF.

Receive, O Holy Father, almighty and everlasting God, this spotless Host, which I thine unworthy servant now offer unto thee, my God, the living and the true, for all my countless sins, wickedness and neglect; and for all those here present, as also for all the faithful in Christ, both the quick and the dead, that it may set forward their salvation and mine, unto life everlasting. We offer unto thee, O Lord, the chalice of salvation, and of thy mercy grant that in the sight of thy divine majesty it may ascend as a sweet-smelling savour for our salvation, and that of all the whole world. Amen.

Just as the Israelites would offer the daily sacrifice in the Temple to turn away God’s wrath from their sins, now we offer the daily Mass - the daily re-presentation of the only Sacrifice that could truly wipe away sins, that of our Lord Jesus Christ. I believe with all my heart that without the daily Mass, this world would cease to exist. Padre Pio said: “It would be easier for the world to survive without the sun than to do so without the Holy Mass.”

The only reason we are all still here is because we have the Mass, the re-presentation of Christ’s sacrifice. Without that, our sins would bring down the wrath of God upon us all.

There is nothing more important in this world than the Mass.
