Is Hans Kung a reliable Church historian?

I was in my local Barnes & Noble searching for books on Church history, theology, and the like when I stumbled upon Hans Kung’s book The Catholic Church: A Short History. His accomplishments are compelling, considering he was an advisor to Vatican II and a doctor of theology. However, upon further reading, I discovered that he had his ecclesiastical teaching authentication removed for preaching against papal infallibility. Is Dr. Kung’s work worth my time reading?
 
Hans Kung is a well-known dissident from Church teaching. While his work may be suitable for some purposes (e.g., understanding the viewpoint of dissidents, research on dissident literature), I cannot recommend considering him a reliable Church historian.
