Is holding hands during the Our Father at Mass an abuse?

In my parish, the priest says the following before the Our Father: “Lets join our hearts, voices, and hands while we say Our Father, Who art in Heaven, …”.

I heard that holding hands during the Our Father at mass was a liturgical abuse.

Is this so? And if so what is my responsibility as a parishioner in regards to trying to get this corrected?
