I guess I’m just looking for clarification on this topic before I have a conversation with someone. Is homosexuality and homosexual acts a sin that will be forgiven if someone goes to confession and repents?
Being homosexual is not a sin and does not require forgiveness.
The Catholic Church teaches that engaging in homosexual acts is a sin, and the level of sin depends on the usual factors (here, knowledge and intent would be key to determine the level of sinfulness).
But those acts are absolutely forgivable. The only unforgivable sin is despair, and that isn’t because of the sin itself; it’s because despair prevents you from accepting forgiveness.
In the discussion, it helps to highlight the point that Christians are called to love our neighbour. If it happens that our neighbour is 2 men married to each other, you would be a good neighbour to them. You would be kind to them. Non-Christians seem to think that ‘you must hate them’. No. They are made in the image and likeness of God, as all of us are, from conception, which is why we never support abortion. Should we go around saying pro-abortion people are baby-phobes? That’s another argument but not really. The dignity of the human person is given by God.Someone I know is calling Christians homophobic
Catechism of the Catholic Church: 1864
“Therefore I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven.” There are no limits to the mercy of God, but anyone who deliberately refuses to accept his mercy by repenting, rejects the forgiveness of his sins and the salvation offered by the Holy Spirit. Such hardness of heart can lead to final impenitence and eternal loss.
ALL sins are forgivable if someone sincerely repents and goes to Confession.I guess I’m just looking for clarification on this topic before I have a conversation with someone. Is homosexuality and homosexual acts a sin that will be forgiven if someone goes to confession and repents?
