A friend of ours does not believe in attending mass on a day of obligation. She argues that this is a man-made law. She attends mass as and when she feels like it. Worse still, she receives Holy Communion at each mass. How do I convince her that it is a mortal sin to miss mass on a day of obligation. I don’t want to break up our friendship but, as a Catholic, I cannot keep quiet about it. Is there any materials, in lay language, I can show her to convince her that it is not a man-made law, but God’s commandment. She knows “Thou shalt keep holy the Sabbath day” but contends why the Church should impose days of obligation. Please help.
