When signing up for something, is it a sin if you didn’t read the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy?

No. Its all the same jibber-jabber, and if there were any unique “license” requirements or “privacy” issues, they would be spelled out in something less than legalese.

The vast majority of software have a simple disclaimer against liability for damage to the machine, as well as against sharing the software, or installing it on more than one machine. Its there to protect the company in the off chance you try to sue them. They can’t generally sneak anything really scary into the “terms of use” that wouldn’t be fairly obvious, because it likely wouldn’t hold up under consumer protection laws.

In a nutshell, the term of use are a simply a formality. The privacy policy is more for your own protection to read, and really is optional, assuming you generally trust the site. So, in conclusion, failing to read these is not a sin 🙂

The main reason for the question is because some sites make you check “I have read and understand…” or some thing along those lines.

😃 I suspect that they are really a poorly disguised cure for insomnia…😃

As I mentioned, all terms of use are quite similar. So as long as you don’t deliberately disobey common software rules, you should be fine. Not reading any given sites terms would not be sinful, though as RobHom said, its a good way to take a nap!

The “I have read and agree” language is meant to protect the company or individual who sponsors the website from liability in case you file a lawsuit against them. It is not a lie to agree to be bound by legal terms that you have not read or understood. I’m a lawyer, and even I don’t waste my time reading all of that legal verbiage.

I remember I used to frequent this site a while back, and I noticed back then you used to continuously post threads regarding sins with situations that had nothing to do with sinning, and I see you’re still doing it.

I call trolling on this.

Honestly

It’s called scrupulosity. It’s a terrible, painful spiritual disease. Go look it up before you accuse someone of trolling.
