Is it a sin to hate?

So the other day I saw a post about the WBC, I had never heard of them before until I googled them. Well I wish I hadn’t because they seem like pretty mean people. Also I have a few friends in the millitary, and wiki said the protest marine’s families funerals. Well this would never fly with me so if they showed up to protest, I don’t know what I would do. Anyways, is it a sin to hate the WBC?
 
They bring to mind about the Pharisees that Jesus rebuked in the bible, calling them hyppocrits, claiming to serve God in name only yet actions says the opposite. These people who claim to be Christians aren’t, only in name only. Their actions are evil, very uncaring. All we can do is pray that God will reach them before it’s too late, that God will touch their hearts to serves God and preach what God wants them to preach. I also keep thinking of the verse judge not lest ye be judge. They are judging in God’s name and that is so wrong. How dare they say such a thing. All we can do is give them to God in prayers and leave it there. They are not true Christians in my opinion. Hating is not the answer-my own father disowned me yet I gave him over to God in prayers, not wishing bad on him. It hurts yet our main focus is ourselves, not others-we need to focus on what God wants of us.

Is it a sin to Hate ? Yes of course it is - because the act of hating closes the heart to feelings of generosity towards the person/ object of hate. In so doing, the heart is denying love towards that entity, and replacing it with anger and bitterness, which starts to grow like a mould and then a cancer, gradually eating away at your spiritual being (soul).

Hate can become a habit that replaces love in our daily lives, and the human condition encourages it, through aggression, competitiveness and the survival of the fittest - it can spread across our psyche, shutting out the light of truth and love, creating shadows and darkness through fear and oppression.

This is the very reason why Jesus came among us, to demonstrate the ‘Living Word of God’, and to show us how to overcome this fundamental human problem - the one commandment - to ‘Love your neighbour as yourself’ (your enemies are your neighbours too).

Confession/Reconciliation comes in now - to clear up the mould and darkness in our soul before the cancer sets in lest it dies. Compare how often we take a shower or bath with how often we cleanse ourselves spiritually through reconciliation. In the existence of our human condition, we can’t help getting dirty, or committing sin from time to time - but we need to stay healthy in both cases, so no more hate !!

Hatred, not dislike is indeed a sin.
It is a sin against Charity.

I first saw them on television years ago. It was a shocker.

I can’t hate them because clearly they are emotionally or mentally impaired.

For a while there all I could think of was World Boxing Council and I could not understand the post. Now I do, thanks to Wiki as you put it 😃
Do not hate them; two wrongs don’t make a right and it is definately sinful to hate anyone no matter how hateful they themselves are.
We are called upon to pray for such people.
 
It seems like they - I assume the OP means the Westboro Baptist Church - are actively seeking to cultivate the hate of others so that they can feel like “martyrs”.

Best not to give them the satisfaction.

Here’s a good passage from Romans that might help you put things in perspective.

Romans 12:21: Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

To the OP:
Is it a sin to hate??? Absolutely Yes it is. Hate is the opposite of Love. Hate moves us away from communion with God.

Now - as regards our “feelings” of disgust and aversion - Those are things that are often associated with feelings of “hate” but one does not necessarily need to lead to the other.
The actions of the WBC are disgusting. They are not the actions of Christians and as such we, as Christians have a natural aversion - a repugnance - to these things.
Why?? Because we we see that these actions are acts against Love and that these acts do not serve to build the Kingdom.

But - while we recognize these things, are are repelled by them. We must not allow our disgust, our repugnance, our aversion to coalesce into hate. Instead, we must pity our poor lost brothers. We must pray for them, and then we must work to minimize the damage they do by their rash and unchristian behavior.

You can and should hate their theology. It is bizarre and grotesque. But the people who subscribe to it are broken and sinful humans longing somewhere inside for the Grace and love of God. Don’t hate them, pity them and pray for them.

The problem may be less with that they hate and more about how they go about “evangelizing”…I mean come-on - protesting at funerals?? Planning to burn another faith’s Holy book…These actions are designed to draw people toward Christ??
And if they DO attract people, what kind of people will they attract. People of Great Love??
I don’t think so…So regardless of their underlying theology or intent, their methodology is counterproductive.
