People seem to have mixed opinions on whether or not having anxiety is a sin. However I feel as if I become very intemperate when I have panic attacks, sometimes because of scrupulosity, sometimes for other reasons. So is it a sin to have anxiety? And is it a sin to have panic attacks?

Absolutely not.

Anxiety is a medical condition. There is medication for it, as well as various kinds of therapy.

There’s a lot of neo-Jansenism floating around the Church today, even among traditionally-minded, doctrinally orthodox Catholics. Such folks would call anxiety a sign of mistrust in God. They go too far. In our confused times, such excesses are only to be expected.
