Is it a sin to throw away blessed palms?

It’s better to dispose of blessed items by burning or burying them. Why not find a place in the garden and bury the palms you no longer want.

It was some strands of palms that I found on the floor at Mass the day after Palm Sunday. I left them on kitchen counter at home and someone else in my family threw them away not knowing what they were. I knew they would get thrown away if I left them there too long but I still didn’t move them. It’s my fault, but I’m not sure what kind of sin do I have?

Genevieve, you have not sinned.

If you often think you are sinning for random reasons, please talk to your pastor.

If you threw them away on purpose, knowing that it was better to bury or burn* them, then that would probably be a sin, but definitely a venial one. As it is, I’d say no sin, and I’m usually pretty strict. 🙂

*I tried burning them once. It took forever and made a terrible mess. I’d definitely recommend burying them instead, unless you have a fireplace or something.

I do struggle with scrupulosity, and I’m working on it with a SD, but I can’t ask him about every situation and it gets so confusing. Knowing that blessed items are to be treated with respect made me think that this had to be a sin. Thanks for your help 🙂
