Is it acceptable to attend a Christian Concert on Good Friday?

I understand that Good Friday is the most Solemn day of the year for Catholics however, a Christian band (which I really want to see) will be coming to Australia to play at a Christian Musical Festival (Easterfest). It is the first time the band will have traveled to Australia so this may be the only opportunity that I will get for a VERY long time to see them live.

Would it be acceptable for me to attend the concert in the evening of Good Friday if I was to still observe all of the normal obligations however, make additional sacrifices?

I fully intend to forget about the concert if I discover that it is 100% inappropriate however, I want to investigate all options before giving it up.

Some ideas that I have are:
  1. Could I make time for extra prayer on Friday?
  2. Could I make up for it on the Wednesday/Thursday?
Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Paul Gunston

Dear Paul,

We Catholics don’t skip over Good Friday in favor of Easter Sunday. Nor should any Christians! It is because of His great love for us that HE DIDN’T skip over it! He showed us on that day that true love is measured by sacrifice and not good feelings. We know how much we care for others by how willing we are to put ourselves out for them. He didn’t mearly pass up a good time for us on that day; He gave His very life! Good Friday matters!

Check the reflection in the answer to the question below about attending a play on that day.
