Is it allowed to get murdered by someone intentionally, when you can prevent it?

According to the Matthew 26:53, Christ could’ve saved himself. But got murdered anyway.

So suicide is bad, but get killed by someone intentionally is not bad? 😥

This seems to border euthanization/assisted suicide which is immoral and not okay. Jesus came not to follow his will but to follow the will of God the Father (John 6:38). While Jesus could have came down from the cross as those taunting Him said to do, this was not the will of God. Jesus came to redeem the world by taking on the sins of the world. If Jesus saved Himself, He would not of been following His Father’s will.

Well, that’s not really what Jesus did.

Jesus was not (from the point of view of civil law) murdered. He was sentenced to death, unjustly of course but still sentenced by the Roman govt (and yes, we know the govt was corrupt and was being manipulated too).

If Jesus would have fought back, He would have be technically sinning by resisting arrest / and the legal authority.

What Jesus actually did (in His human nature) was accept martyrdom vs committing a venial sin.

Now, theologically, we know he was doing much more than that.

We are allowed to defend ourselves against criminals trying to kill us. But we are not allowed to sin while doing it. Resisting arrest or fighting back against authorities while under arrest would be sinful.

Think of it this way. Would we normally consider it ok for a wrongly convicted prisoner to escape? We might wish him to escape, but we would not want him to break the law.

BTW - I am NOT talking about counties where is is not illegal to escape from prison.

I hope is this somewhat helpful.

NOTE: If you are considering a way for someone to kill you - PLEASE DO NOT and call the National suicide prevention lifeline right away at 1-800-273-8255

May God bless you and bring you peace.

To comment directly on the verse you cited in your question, Jesus is saying this after Peter strikes the guard and cuts off his ear. Jesus is saying that if He wanted He could have armies ready to defend Him, He has that power and could easily do it. But, Jesus is saying that this battle is not of this world. This battle will not be won by physical strength. It is a spiritual battle (the battle against satan) that will be won through His redemptive mercy and ultimate sacrificial love on the cross. The war has already been won, this is the Gospel, this is our faith.

He could have saved himself through supernatural means, but it was important that he live as a man.
