Is it bad to laugh at the Pope Mobile?

I believe G. K. Chesterton once said, “It’s a good test of your religion whether you can joke about it.”

Laugh away mate. I, too, find the Pope-Mobile rather funny. But if I was ever Pope I would totally ride in it. Like a boss. 😎

If laughing at the Pope Mobile is your biggest transgression, you just may have been the first person whose post I have responded to is certain to be canonized!

It’s not laughing at him .Of course it can be a funny looking vehicle,I had a chuckle back in the 80’s when I saw it here.
The Pope has never visited Pittsburgh- none of them. I think John Paul visited BEFORE he became Pope, but no sitting pope has come here.

I’m sure its a blessing, but its also a burden on the community he visits, due to the security that has to be provided. That’s why the Popemobile was devised, security.

I think the sound of “Pope Mobile” is kind of funny. There’s something about the “p” and long “o” sounds. And the fact that Batman had “Bat-this” and “Bat-that”, for just about anything you can think of, does lend an amusing aspect to it.

I think you are fine.

It is actually rather sad that the Pope needs a special vehicle in order to be safe. It’s kind of nice that we get a bit of pleasure from the name of said vehicle.

Does anyone know what they call it in other languages?

He is holy but what’s more important is that the office is holy not the man

My thoughts totally. A joke here and there about your own faith generally shows how secure you are. If you can’t joke around about it, there might be a problem.

No, everybody gets a little chuckle out of the Popemobile. It’s just one of those cute Pope things.

Also, speaking of Batman, this picture came up yesterday on Youtube in the middle of me praying the Glorious Mysteries along with a Mother Angelica video, and I immediately thought “Holy Bat Signal!”

I don’t think Pope Francis even uses it, does he?
Of course he uses it. At the beginning and end of his big audiences in St. Peter’s Square, he gets in it and is driven all around so the crowds can see him and get photos of him. I have some great photos of him in it from when I was fortunate to attend an audience. I hung around an hour after the end (with lots of other people) and missed lunch so I could get a picture of him in the Popemobile up close.

He also rode in it around Philadelphia when he visited there.

Not for parades and distance travel, no- He uses his little Focus or whatever 🙂 For parades in Saint Peter’s and the like, he does

I posted a picture of the one he uses, The OP was likely talking about the other bubble head one.

I know in Philly he had a special Fiat one here that was sold for a high price to some private buyer after he left.
I would imagine that when he visits someplace, they do the same - just get one made there instead of having to ship one along with him all over the world.

You can totally laugh at the Pope mobile, as long as you don’t disrespect the Pope himself.

Aren’t Fiats all made in Italy?

Anyway, if the Pope is visiting, and no-one is willing to cough up a new Fiat, for crying out loud . . .

hawk

I would imagine that one was made in Italy, but had somehow come to the USA ahead of or separate from said Pope, rather than having to fly over on his aircraft.
We have plenty of Fiat dealers and every other kind of foreign and luxury car dealer in this neck of the woods.
