Is it licit to substitute Apostles Creed for Nicene Creed at ALL Masses?

Lol…you get a lot of flak about the threads you post and insinuations are made about you but many times there is good info among the comments to learn from. Maybe it’s because sometimes you expose division within the Church and some do not like to acknowledge that but it is there and it’s kind of silly to ignore it.

In many ways these forums are like parishes – some really aren’t here to discuss/learn (or in the case of parishes to worship and fellowship.) Their focus is on wielding power and control over others. Their personal agenda comes first, no matter how much at odds it might be with the Church (or simply the exercise of proper manners.) If someone (in their minds) threatens that, they immediately resort to personal attacks.

This problem is greatly exacerbated by the amount of baggage some drag into these forums (and their parishes.) I have started legitimate threads (and so have many others here), when someone for instance, posts a retort filled with anger and other negative emotions because they claim the matter was already discussed sometime before.

So who exactly made them the hall monitor? Their egos I suspect.

You’re right though – in the end there is also some great information to be gleaned from these discussions. That’s why I keep coming back. I just wish there was an “ignore switch” I could flick off for some…

I have. I am not supposed to 'pay attention to the front part of the songbook" (IOW, the part of the book that gives the rite of the Mass) and to “let myself fully and actively participate in liturgy”.

My parish only uses the Nicene Creed

Is this a universal thing, or unique to the US? I ask because I am outside the US and it would be very uncommon for us to say the Nicene Creed as opposed to the Apostles Creed.

Our pastor is a “liturgist” (I think that’s the right word - he has advanced degrees in liturgy) so I’m quite confident in his direction.

It is universal.

There are no longer strict restrictions on when the Apostles Creed can be substituted. At first, it was only for certain Masses (usually those having something to do with the catechumenate). Gradually, these were expanded; and that happened at different speeds around the globe. It was made universal a few years back (roughly 2010).

At the present, and everywhere, the Apostles Creed can be substituted for the Nicene anytime. There are no restrictions.

The only thing that comes close to being a restriction is that the intent is that it’s to be done sometimes as opposed to always. But still, that’s not strictly defined.
