I am considering running a 5k race next Sunday. There is a chapel/devotion held by a non-denominational Christian endurance group. The race is benefiting Childhood Cancer, but I am not suree if it benefits embryonic stem cell research. Regardless, is it moral to run this race?

I think this is an issue of what is called “formal” or “material” cooperation with evil. Seems to me if it’s not clear that embryonic stem cell research is not the sole target of support or a listed target of support (e.g. “Race for embryonic stem cell research”), then you’re OK.

Might be a good idea to ask the organizers to see if they know where the money is going, if for nothing else than to inform your conscience.

What about the non-denominational chapel/devotion? (I think this is optional).

Is it alright for me to race since it’s called The Elf Run.
