Is it morally ok to watch Youtube? Are they illegal videos mostly?

Thanks! I’m not sure if a recent movie is a full work of art. I know it cannot be passed off as your own art or part of your art. If it recently comes out, the studio probably has a right to make money off DVD sales for a few weeks, at least. Rentals are bought by rental places, but I think rental places give who all rented what info. regarding newer DVDs to the studio and/or newspapers.

As for fighting pornography, I disagree. It’s corruptive. Some things are the good fight–an uphill battle. You can show all the good example you want, but kids can still see porn–some softcore kids right by major Hollywood films! In a better world, parents would protect children from this stuff and strangers would show kids a good example, but it doesn’t happen. In fact, in these days, the morality of Hollywood, California, is the example being shown in most cities. We got soft and now they are doing the censorship of us. Pope Pius X did the right thing regarding the troublemakers pretending to be Catholic in his day. Pope Pius 12th had his hands full with WW2, I’m sure, and that probably gave revolutionaries time to do all but change dogma, which is impossible. If a bad book can ruin a convent or monastery, what do you think bad media does to kids and adults? The bad book in the convent must be destroyed as must the bad media wherever possible.

Why is it always interior vs exterior and firm action against scandal vs. good example? Just because someone goes too far during conservative times, like witch hunts or quickie Masses in beautiful cathedrals, some think you must do the exact opposite. Do both and have them act in cooperation to better society! Since people are fallible in their daily lives, there will at least be one safeguard against socially-acceptable scandal.

I would NEVER start down a path of restricting free speech. Do not look at that stuff if it offends you. We lead people to Christ by example and not by force. Look at the Jews in Jesus’ time. They put Christ to death because he violated the Jews laws. Fighting pornograhy is not accomplished by censorship, but by charity and example.
It is actually accomplished by both. it is accomplished by censoring or limiting access to it and ALSO by the charity and example which you state.

It should NOT be open slather like it is on the internet. I do not believe in getting rid of it compleatly, but when the internet did not exist it was easier to police the illegal sales of pornography as most of it had to be purchased though channels simular to how we can get Alcohol and Cigarettes today. Illegal channels of obtaining it were more limited ten to 20 years ago.

I believe in the filtering of it on the internet because cutting down the access to it is nessecery to eliminating or limiting it as a total social problem.

I think youtube, like some other things, is a grey area when it comes to sin. On some things it’s very black and white and one way or the other, but for some things you just cannot be sure, since you have no knowledge or facts to work with as to whether the material in question is legal or not.

I brought up a topic here that partially dealt with youtube, and my one of my questions was whether or not it was ok to create music videos, or to use my own original content and videos, but have mp3 songs playing in the background for music.

Through a discussion, we came to the conclusion that as long as I paid for the music, and created the file into an mp3 using a legal work-around, that it is legal to have the mp3, since you paid for it. It would then be legal for me to then put that mp3 in a video tutorial, etc., since I paid for it. So, as far as my dealings with the material and with youtube, I’ve done something legal, but when it involves other people watching said video(s) I’m not sure what happens, and this seems to be the issue, or part of the issue, the OP is addressing.

The answer is, we don’t know, unless it’s obvious. We just have to hope the uploader is telling the truth and is being honest and doing the legal thing. In cases where copyright infringement is obvious, and people are going beyond the extents and limits of fair use and similar laws, then it’s one thing, and the videos will likely be deleted by the youtube staff when they come across it, or someone reports it.

I tend to be scrupulous about these types of things, which is why I don’t watch anime (fansubs) online anymore. It’s technically illegal, but not entirely immoral given the nature of it’s existence and how it benefits the business of japanese animation in some ways while hurting it in others, etc. While I never really relied on youtube to watch my anime (as there were better sites for this), this issue of anime fansubs is an example I can give you of how watching these videos on youtube is a clear case of illegal activity, both on the part of the person who uploaded the anime and the people who watch it and the people who know it’s there, but don’t report it.

Thanks! I like Dragonball Z and Rurouni Kenshin (they’re both nice characters who can be silly when relaxed and awesome when fighting and the only ones that die by any of them are aliens in the former; still, the He-Man and G.I. Joe shows of the '80s were great too except that the superheroes wear tight clothes and a lot of “skin” show!), except for the parts where they say they can never forgive so and so. Still, they’re very decent. There’s so many, it’s hard to remember, for sure if it is 100%.

Anyway, since we are on Youtube

Sorry to the moderators if that were off-topic too much.

That said, I said a couple prayers during Mass for him. I am not choleric, but I do get angry about that kind of thing. I think I’ll go there and tag (I think that’s their word for pointing out offensive content) each of the videos. I just had to spread this issue around where many can read it and add their names to the petition.
