When we do not “feel” the presence of the Lord, that is when we need to make acts of faith. Feeling the presence of the Lord is called consolations. We will not always have that. In fact we can grow stronger in faith if we do not “feel” the Lord through consolations. Prayerful acts of faith in His Presence causes our faith to grow stronger, and then we begin to have His deep peace.

Trust the Lord and pray much. He knows when to let up.

I am not yet Catholic but will be soon. In my church I never feel God’s presence,so I know how you feel. Just remember God is closer than you think.

Seek and you will find. Ask for the Holy Spirit and you will receive Him. Pray and meditate. God is available you just have to open your heart.

St Teresa of Avila wrote about this. She compared it to being like Martha.

Yes it’s normal. Many people go through this stage in their life…some people for a long time, others a short time and others go in and out of it. Read up on the saints and you will hear them talk of it. It does not however mean he is not there. In fact saints often tell you he is closer then than ever. Feeling the temptation to not believe, is just that, a temptation… ask God to help you with that. Just because you can’t feel him doesnt mean he isnt there. Remember that old saying, the teacher is quietest during the test. Jesus said he will never leave you and he wont. Anything to the contrary is simply a lie and who lies? not God… so who is tempting you, yes the devil… Don’t listen. Do not be deceived. Your own will, the world or the devil are the things to watch out for in deception. It is easier not to believe cos then we dont have to change and can sin all we like and the world is corrupt and full of sin (dont listen to society!!) and well the father of lies…don’t listen to him…he wants you to be a miserable as he is. God is with you and is surrounding you with his love whether you can see it and feel it or not, he is working patiently on your soul right now. Have patience with his ways, they are not our ways… his ways lead to heaven… our ways… do not. He loves you, accept that love and trust him… keep going to mass, praying and reading your bible and or the works of the saints and wait until he lets you feel him again. God bless you.

Odd to see this subject only a few days after I posted it as a discussion topic on my site (“Is salvation a feeling”). Perhaps the fact that several different people are prompted to post about it means that this subject may help someone.
