Is it o.k. to feed each other Eucharist?

Recently at Mass, I witnessed a practice I’ve never seen before. I’m wondering if this goes against liturgical norms? A young, vibrant, faith-filled couple, received the Blessed Sacrament in their respective hands. They waited for each other to have the Host and then they proceeded to distribute the Host to each other (think of how couples “feed” each other wedding cake). Should this practice be encouraged or rectified?

Such a practice is prohibited.

Norms for the Distribution and Reception of Holy Communion Under Both Kinds in the Dioceses of the United States of America
  1. The communicant, including the extraordinary minister, is never allowed to self-communicate, even by means of intinction. Communion under either form, bread or wine, must always be given by an ordinary or extraordinary minister of Holy Communion.
