Is it ok for catholics to believe the Vatican is the Whore of Babylon?

I realize there are some people who hate catholics, and believe the Vatican is the Whore of Bablyon referenced in Revelation. But do they have a monopoly on this opinion?

Can good catholics believe it is true, perhaps that in the future it may come to pass?
I believe I read somewhere St. Augustine speculated that it may be true one day.

I suppose the Scripture that seems to go against this idea is Christ’s promise that the gates of hades will not prevail. Then again, perhaps the gates don’t prevail, if many “come out of her” as Revelation 18:4 says. So that before things get way out of hand, Christ comes to literally ensure the gates do not prevail at the Vatican.

Is it ok for a catholic to believe this? It seems really the only convincing answer that lines up with all the descriptions of the Whore of Babylon. And again, I think some Church Fathers allowed for this, but I am not certain.

So…you are asking if it is okay for a Catholic to believe the seat of his Church is the whore of Babylon?

It will come up from the abyss and is headed for destruction. The inhabitants of the earth whose names have not been written in the book of life from the foundation of the world shall be amazed when they see the beast, because it existed once but exists no longer, and yet it will come again. 9 Here is a clue for one who has wisdom. The seven heads represent seven hills upon which the woman sits. They also represent seven kings: 10 five have already fallen, one still lives, and the last has not yet come, and when he comes he must remain only a short while. 11 The beast that existed once but exists no longer is an eighth king, but really belongs to the seven and is headed for destruction. 12 The ten horns that you saw represent ten kings who have not yet been crowned; they will receive royal authority along with the beast for one hour. 13 They are of one mind and will give their power and authority to the beast. 14They will fight with the Lamb, but the Lamb will conquer them, for he is Lord of lords and king of kings, and those with him are called, chosen, and faithful.”

15 Then he said to me, “The waters that you saw where the harlot lives represent large numbers of peoples, nations, and tongues. 16 The ten horns that you saw and the beast will hate the harlot; they will leave her desolate and naked; they will eat her flesh and consume her with fire. 17 For God has put it into their minds to carry out his purpose and to make them come to an agreement to give their kingdom to the beast until the words of God are accomplished. 18 The woman whom you saw represents the great city that has sovereignty over the kings of the earth.” *

The answer is NO. Vatican Hill is not one of the seven hills of Rome. It was outside the city of Rome at the time Revelation was written. The city of Rome WAS the whore of Babylon in the first century, and the Caeser’s were the seven kings. It may in the future again be the whore of Babylon, but we don’t know.
 
A whore sells her body. The Vatican is not a whore.

No, it is not OK to believe that the Vatican is a whore.

You THINK some of the Church Fathers allowed for this but youre not sure? Where did you hear/read such a thing?
Of course a Catholic would believe no such thing.

We are to accept the representatives of the Church.
When we reject the pope, we reject who sent him (Christ). When we reject Christ, we reject who sent him (God the Father). We need to stop rejecting God and his Church.

Christ said HIS Church would survive, that the gates of hell would not prevail against it! In other words, no.
We have Christ’s promise.

When we attack the Church, his representatives, we attack Christ! Be careful not to believe these lies.

It’s bad enough when other faiths do this, but we Catholics not only must not believe this but actively defend the Church, out of our duty!

So, next time someone tells you that, defend the Church. It may not change them, but you will have at least done your part.
