I tried searching for the answer in the CCC and the forums. I couldn’t find it.

A couple of weeks ago, my friend Toni (a Catholic) spoke at my friend, Amy’s Lutheran church, about her miraculous recovery from terminal cancer. (Toni was personally blessed by Pope John Paul II). I was their for support of both my friends. Assuming that Lutheran churches don’t have “communion” every Sunday, I wasn’t concerned about what I should do in the event there was “communion”. Unfortunately, there was communion and I became anxious about what to do. My gut feeling said “no”, I should not receive. I quickly tried rationalizing with myself saying, “it is just bread and wine”, so I went ahead and received. I mentioned this to my mom and she said that I shouldn’t have received and that I have to go to confession. I am on the fence with this one. I am very strong in my faith - daily prayer, weekly adoration, Rel. Ed. teacher, etc. That Sunday morning I did go to early Mass before attending the Lutheran service. What should I do? I feel bad about this, and I’m concerned I did a terrible thing.

Thank you for your time.

Dear Connie,

It is a serious sin to knowingly receive an invalid eucharist. You should have been there as an observer—not as a participant.
