LOL! No, of course not 🙂 Why would you think it would be a sin? Don’t worry so much 🙂

O I see, you are thinking of whether it would be a sin without buying the book, right? I don’t think it would be a sin. I’m sure that either the copyright has expired or they have permission to post it on the web.

Thanks for responding! 🙂

I guess the worry would be that there’s a copyright on the book, and that one should pay for it before using it. The book is available for sale, which made me wonder about the morality of reading it for free.

most of the books you see on websites are in the public domain, that is, the copyrights have expired. if it is on the web you can read it, but if it is copyrighted material you will either register, and possibly pay for, the right to access the site, or there will be restrictions on downloading or printing the material. personally, reading anything lengthy, especially devotional materials, is difficult and unattractive to me on the computer. I prefer my books the old fashioned way.

I believe that material is protected under international copyright laws for a time of 60 years after the death of the author. St. John of the Cross is therefore definitely in the public domain.

Hermione: you must have at least 12 to 15 similar threads about whether x and y detail is a sin. I won’t tell you scrupulosity is a sin, but it is a sign of other issues such as obsessive compulsive disorder. You are tying yourself in knots, sweetheart, and that sort of compunctious legalism in never from God. Don’t keep asking advice about “sins;” get some compassionate professional advice about your scrupulosity.

Best wishes.
