I’m sure we all know about the peace symbol. Just recently, I learned that it was actually a demonic symbol. I’ve always wanted to spread peace in the world, so this came as quite a shock. But if you really look at the peace sign, you’ll notice that it’s an upside down cross with the arms pulled down. Turning a cross upside-down is bad enough, but stomping on the arms is even worse. Is it okay to use the symbol if you’re trying to promote peace and it has nothing to do with the demonic part of it? From what I understand, nobody really knows the origins of the peace sign anyway. Any thoughts on this? Thank You!!! 🙂

It was designed in 1958 as part of the British Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament. It’s the semaphore letters N and D superimposed on each other.

Not demonic.

My thought is that a peace sign is not going to promote peace any more that a heart emoji promotes love. 🙂

The “broken cross turned upside down” is an urban legend that goes back to the hippie era. People used to make claims like that when I was like 5. The true origin of the symbol is what JulianN said. Furthermore, the symbol has meant nothing but peace (generally with an overtone of 60s-70s era concepts) for over half a century.

I would suggest you not believe everything you read on the Internet.

Symbols also don’t promote anything in and of themselves. It’s the action behind them.

@JulianN and @Tis_Bearself have corrected your misapprehension about the “demonic symbol” myth. In case you’re not familiar with the semaphore flag signals, you can check them here. N for Nuclear, D for Disarmament.

Hey…ND can also stand for Not Demonic xD

St. Peter’s cross is actually on the stained-glass windows of a church I sometimes attend, and I noticed they had to put an explanation in their bulletin about what it was because people apparently thought it was a satanic symbol.

Some acquaintances don’t believe me when I explain about St.Peter’s Cross.

I had a very large peace sign necklace that one of my grandmothers gave me. ☮️

I think that I was about 8 years old at the time. 😉
