But it was a handful compared to the more than 55 million since Roe v Wade. If one believes in justice, what will be the retribution for this travesty? Americans should fear greatly for their nation on this count alone.
I think it was more than a handful. Abortions have been performed since ancient times, it’s just that they aren’t reported when they are illegal. But it was estimated that even in the 30’s the number of abortions performed in the U.S by physicians was 800,000 per year.

I agree with your last post. In order to reduce the number of these murders, you need to change the climate and maybe you’ll change their hearts. Help the pregnant women, encourage adoptions, etc.

Check this study out. johnstonsarchive.net/policy/abortion/graphusabrate.html

According it it, abortions grew from .01% in 1960 to 30.1% in 1981 to 22.2% in 2008.

Here’s an interesting fact. After the CS legalized abortion in January 1973 there were 744,600 abortions performed. Menawhile, the Alan Guttmacher Institute, affiliate of Planned Parenthood, which compiles abortion statistics, had claimed that 1.2 million illegal abortions took place in 1972. The numbers were obviously fudged, since there would not be a drop of 450,000 due to it becoming legal for the first time. You would imagine the number would grow. So I wouldn’t put any stock in abortion figures that seem awfully high for illegal back room abortions.

Just as interesting.

That 1960 number is disputable. The nuns were already preaching against abortion in the 50’s.

The whole purpose of the birth-control pill introduced in the late 50’s and designed by a Catholic no less, was to reduce the number of abortions.
I really thought a handful was correct by comparison to the more than a million a year that occur now. If it were much more, as it seems it was, it still seems to have been increased by legalization.

On the birth control bill, it may have been well intended, but the Church has not seen fit to bless it, since at best it’s a contraceptive substance and at worst its an abortive substance.

Before the 1960’s but especially after that date, the numbers are propagandized. There was great turmoil in the 1960’s. They claimed there was abortions everywhere, Not so.

Abortion was available somewhere but they would have been back alley abortions which most girls feared.

The wealthy would have gone overseas where available for their daughters. The general population would have little access or knowledge.

In order to pass the abortion laws, the abortion lobby bloated all the figures and made it seem like there was rampart abortion when there wasn’t. They started clinics in major cities.

Abortion would take care of all the unwanted children.(There were 65 or 75 million Boomers)

When it passed…

Legal abortion clinics near colleges and poor neighborhoods made it very easily accessible. Abortions went way up and they said. Hey look, we told you so, “look at numbers”.

From these forums, I’ve heard posters say the pill was to take care of abortion and promiscuity and who know what else. That could be a thread in itself I think.

I read recently, while studying Civics and Government for school, that the decisions of the Supreme Court are final because they are the highest court in the nation. Is it possible, then, for their 1973 decision in the Roe v. Wade case to legalize abortion to be overturned? Can they repeal their own decision, thus making abortion illegal again (or at least its legality determined by the states)? Or is abortion permanently legal now? Thanks for the help, I am not very good with civic issues. God bless. 🙂
Yes, the Supreme Court may overturn its own rulings, especially in the light of new evidence. See Brown v. Board of Education (segregation) and Lawrence v. Texas (sodomy law).
