Can a person get ashes twice on Ash Wednesday? Only asking because because I’m not sure. My daughter got ashes at school today, we are going to Mass this evening, and she was wondering if she could get them again.
There is no limit on the number of times a Catholic can receive ashes on Ash Wednesday. But the ashes are supposed to be worn all day as a sign of penance, not wiped off and then reapplied later at another Mass. While there is nothing wrong with getting ashes more than once, someone attending more than one Mass on Ash Wednesday, and who has ashes already, could simply remain in the pew during the distribution of the ashes.
