I desparately need to go to Confession but I know it will take me about 20 min to just confess. The sins are a result of family problems/extreme anger etc, etcI.

tried waiting in line these past two Saturdays and Sundays(before Mass)but I just didn’t want to keep other people waiting.

Is it rude to schedule Confession with a priest from another Parish? I would like to go face to face but just don’t want to with my Parish priest.

Thanks.

You are allowed to confess to any Catholic priest who has faculties to hear confession. That is the general answer, for most purposes the laity doesn’t need to worry about the 2nd part (pretty much stay away from liaised or schismatic priests). The easiest way to check is to check if the parish is listed on the diocese website.

Usually I go to confession wherever happens to be convenient (something like a Saturday afternoon at a certain church or weekdays at a Cathedral).

No, it’s not rude. Go to confession wherever you are comfortable and can get it done. That’s what’s important–going to confession–not worrying about what anyone else thinks about where and how you are confessing.

I did a long general confession by appointment and face to face (with a priest I know) and it was absolutely wonderful. I could feel the sandbags falling off my shoulders as I spoke.

In RCIA I teach that it is of primary importance that the penitent be free to chose that method that makes him most comfortable so as to be free to confess fully. So while I make various suggestions that I think may help, I emphasize that these are just for information, not directions or requirements.

Of course it is ok. Under normal conditions when I see a confession taking 20 + minutes I suspect that either the confessor or the person confessing is just a little nuts,

I go to confession at a lot of different parishes, but I do like to go to a priest that is pretty “tough”; one who makes me explain the WHY’s of what Idid or didn’t do.

I have been lucky and found several priests that really make me work for the Absolution.

If it is going to take you unreasonably long to confess fully, it is prudent to schedule an appointment. Go wherever you feel comfortable.

I don’t think you will be asked when you schedule your confession to which parish you belong, nor why you’re not going there for confession. Make a good examination ahead of time so you don’t miss anything you want to tell the priest.

20 minutes? I managed to confess 22 years worth of sins in about five.

It’s not rude, and I’m sure a priest at another parish would be happy to hear your Confession, but are you sure it will take that long?

i too prefer to confess in another parish, or if there’s a visiting priest

yes, i’m ashamed of my sins:sad_yes:

It will probably take you less time than you think it will. But, go where you will feel comfortable and can make a thorough confession. Prep ahead of time with an examen of conscience.

I usually go to confession at another parish because the times for confession happen to be extremely convenient there.

I go to another parish because my priest will say “I’m not going to contradict the Church, but don’t think that’s sin.”.

rudeness does not even enter into it. you should ahve a regular confessor but if you have to go to another parish do it. Do not use this needless concern to defer confession if you need it. and please do not share details of your confession on line, save it for the priest.

DO IT!!!

Feel free to go to confession anywhere that it is convenient to do so.

I’ve been doing that for decades.

[Yes, I’m one of the people who makes priests nuts with details. I think one of them said something about being stoned to death with popcorn.] But that’s ok.

Get into the habit of frequent confession.

If you have no mortal sins, but it has been a while, just tell him it has been a while and you need the grace.

Once upon a time, I had the job from “h*ll” and I went to confession weekly, after daily Mass, in the sacristy, “Hi Father, do you have time for a quick confession? Nothing dramatic.”

The priests have ALWAYS been happy to hear my confession.

Priests have two #1 jobs: offering sacrifice to God [when they say Mass] and rounding up and giftwrapping souls from the highways and byways for God [giving absolution for sins].

So, [and I don’t mean to be flip] GO FOR IT!!!

Absolutely, go to confession as often as you can and where ever you may happen to be at the time.

[Sometimes, even some obscure time and place may actually be a GIFT FROM GOD … because HE arranged for a priest to be available to YOU at exactly that moment.]

That is quite an uncharitable comment to say that the confessor or the person confessing is “nuts”, based just on the time it takes to confess.

Right. It is courteous to others and takes the pressure of others waiting off you and the priest.

One shouldn’t make any assumptions at all. Once I was at a day of recollection, and the person who went to confession before me was in there for at least 30 minutes. I was half-jokingly thinking, “Oh, my goodness, she must have killed her mother!” Then my turn came, and I confessed a few boring sins, and the priest talked for 25 minutes about any number of topics unrelated to my sins!

Not rude at all. Usually if you need to talk to a priest for a considerable amount of time, an appointment would be recommended. But at the same time just showing up may be neccessary depending on parishes available throughout your diocese. Consider courtesies for other fellow brothers and sisters attending Reconciliation. Their attendance and time is also crucial.

I do commend you for attendance at Confession. It shows your evangelization as a practicing Catholic. You are an example of a disciple under Jesus Christ

I myself attend at least once a month minimum to twice a month. sometimes weekly. And why not? I am a sinner just like the rest of us. So we think we’re that good for Heaven as Catholics? Jesus says “NO ONE GOES TO THE FATHER EXCEPT THROUGH ME”. That includes Catholics. The Pope has received confession weekly and I have heard also the Pope has received daily confession. If the Pope goes frequently, then his message to us is saying something very clear.

Many parishes I have attended Confession have short lines or no lines to begin with. But it is so ironic that the pews empty out to receive Holy Communion on Sunday.

Ashame, numerous Catholics are receiving Holy communion while under mortal sin. They have excommunicated themselves. When they do receive Holy Communion, It is called Sacrilege. They have put judgement upon themselves. St. Paul states in 1 Corinthians11: 23-33 on abuses of Holy Eucharist.

My Priest told me about once a month Confession is good to help our awareness of our sinfulness and helps keep us from getting too lax on our conscience. We can easily deceive ourselves.

You are doing great and God Bless.

Hope the Confession experience worked out ok.

Sometimes, if I have no mortal sins, I just say that and say that it has just been too long and I like to go to Confession more often.

Once upon a time, when I left the confessional and there were no other folks in line, I would return and leave the door open and just talk about miscellaneous stuff. Like the pastor was having trouble fixing the parking lot or the paint was peeling on the south side, stuff like that. When someone finally arrived, they would hear the chit-chat and stick their heads in and I would wave them in and head off to say my penance.

By all means, everyone should avail themselves of Confession at frequent intervals. Monthly or more often. Whatever, but just go!

It isn’t rude at all. My regular confessor is the pastor at a neighboring parish. I make appointments with him regularly. What matters is that you go to confession.
